WebI am not 100% sure, but I think the contour smoothing feature in Civil 3D was designed for contours that lack detail. When you have fewer points in your contour polyline, the feature works great. Because the lidar contours are so detailed, it just doesn't work on them. In C3D, you'll want to Simplify, not Smooth.
